It’s that time of year…when the flu, COVID-19 and other respiratory illnesses like RSV are spreading throughout our community.
Catching both the flu and COVID-19 is possible, so you should make sure to get vaccinated against the flu and receive the 2024–2025 COVID-19 vaccine to help protect yourself. If you haven’t scheduled these vaccines yet, you can do so right in MyChart.
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommends the following:
For the flu: everyone ages 6 months and older should get a flu shot. This is especially important if you are pregnant or have a chronic medical problem like asthma, diabetes, congestive heart failure (CHF) or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Learn more about flu prevention on the CDC website.
For COVID-19: everyone ages 6 months and older should get the 2024–2025 COVID-19 vaccine. This includes people who have received a COVID-19 vaccine before and people who have had COVID-19.
Getting the 2024–2025 COVID-19 vaccine is especially important if you:
- Never received a COVID-19 vaccine
- Are ages 65 years and older
- Are at high risk for severe COVID-19
- Are living in a long-term care facility
- Are pregnant
- Want to lower your risk of getting Long COVID
