Reliant Medical Group joins NIH All of Us Research Program to Advance Precision Medicine

• Program aims to accelerate health research and more quickly identify medical advancements
• Adults of all ethnicities and backgrounds age 18 and over invited to participate
• Reliant is the only enrollment organization in Central Massachusetts

February 4, 2019 – Reliant Medical Group is partnering with the National Institutes of Health (NIH) as an enrollment site for the All of Us Research Program – a nationwide effort to advance individualized prevention, treatment and care for people of all ethnicities and backgrounds.

This program is seeking at least 1 million volunteers from across the United States to enroll and share information about their health, habits and environment in order to accelerate health research and more quickly identify medical advancements.

NIH has funded more than 100 organizations throughout the country to be partners in the program, with Reliant being the only participating organization in central Massachusetts. Reliant will enroll volunteers and gather participant data for use in research. Volunteers do not have to be Reliant patients to take part in the program.

“The time is now to transform how we conduct research – with participants as partners – to shed new light on how to stay healthy and manage disease in more personalized ways. This is what we can accomplish through All of Us,” said NIH Director Francis S. Collins, M.D., Ph.D.

Research developed from All of Us will focus on precision medicine, an emerging approach to disease treatment and prevention that considers differences in people’s lifestyles, environments and biological makeup, including genes. By partnering with over 1 million diverse people who share information about themselves over many years, the All of Us Research Program will enable research to more precisely prevent and treat a variety of health conditions.

It also has the potential to help us identify new treatments faster. We look forward to seeing the results of this initiative and putting them into practice for our patients.”

The All of Us Research Program is free and open to people age 18 and older living in the United States regardless of their health status.

To join locally, participants may visit http://www.joinallofus.org/reliant to create an account and provide consent. Participants are then able to agree to share their electronic health records and fill out online surveys about their health, family, home and work. Next, they may be asked to have a 30-minute visit at a Reliant office to have their physical measurements taken and provide blood and urine samples.

Participants who complete the full enrollment visit will receive a $25 gift card for their time as well as online access to their health information, and information about the All of Us studies and findings.  All health information collected is stored securely and confidentially.
