A provider may not have star ratings accompanying his/her website profile for one or more of the following reasons:
Jennifer is a clinician who specializes in providing Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to her patients. She is certified by the DBT-Linehan Board of Certification. DBT is an evidence-based psychotherapy that uses mindfulness, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness and emotion regulation to help patients overcome problems.
“I am very passionate about utilizing DBT to help patients. They deserve treatments proven to work to the highest level and nothing less,” explained Jennifer. “I learned DBT early in my career and it was a game-changer for me as a clinician and for my patients. My first job out of school was in an intensive long-term residential program with patients who had extensive trauma and severe emotional and behavioral problems. Within a few months of practicing DBT, I started seeing my patients’ progress. It helped me realize I could actually help people who needed it most.” Jennifer believes DBT gives patients the best chance to reach their goals and build a life they want to live with the skills they need.
Jennifer always makes a point to work collaboratively with her patients. “I am an equal to my patients – a human helping another human in need. I feel the relationship is a foundation to any other treatment that can occur. I love witnessing the ‘lightbulb’ moments patients have as they figure themselves out and move toward achieving their goals. That’s why I love working in this field.”
Jennifer says she especially enjoys helping those who have mostly given up on themselves and can no longer see a life worth living. “Using DBT, patients learn how to increase their tolerance of distress both during immediate crisis and long-term life changes, regulate their intense and fluctuating emotions, improve their ability to connect with others, effectively obtain support from others, develop and maintain healthy relationships, and, most importantly, learn to be content with themselves.”
As a person, Jennifer is direct with her patients yet also very compassionate. “I am willing and able to discuss anything that my patients need to discuss. I want patients to feel comfortable, respected, and able to put their trust in me as a professional,” she explains.
In her spare time Jennifer loves being outdoors and enjoys rock climbing, hiking, and snowshoeing as well as camping, kayaking, and fly-fishing. She has hiked all the 4000-footers in the White Mountains and summited many of them multiple times.
