Shields Health Care, Reliant Medical Group open first outpatient surgery center in MetroWest with Orthopedics New England and New England Hand Associates

NATICK, MA – Four leading health care organizations including Shields Health Care Group, Reliant Medical Group, Orthopedics New England and New England Hand Associates unveiled the new jointly owned New England Surgical Suites (NESS),  the first and only freestanding ambulatory surgery center (ASC) in the MetroWest area.

The new 13,000-square foot facility will serve an estimated 3,000 patients each year. Surgeons from New England Hand Associates, Orthopedics New England, and Reliant Medical Group will operate at the center located at 313 Speen St., near the Rte. 9 interchange across from the Natick Mall. The facility previously underwent a $10-million renovation of an existing space to accommodate the new ASC.

NESS is a state-of-the-art, freestanding facility featuring three Class C operating rooms with brand-new equipment, cutting-edge technology for surgical precision, and specialized electronic medical records, enabling providers to rapidly share and analyze information.

Orthopedic and hand surgeries, as well ENT procedures are expected to drive much of the caseload.  New England Hand and Ortho New England will perform procedures ranging from total joint replacement to back surgery. Reliant Medical Group will provide ENT surgery, including sinus surgery and tonsillectomies.

Procedures at NESS are billed at ASC rates, making them, on average, at least 40 percent lower than in a hospital setting.

“We are proud to offer the MetroWest community a groundbreaking new option for these surgeries – the highest quality surgery provided in a beautiful new state-of-the-art free-standing center at a dramatically lower cost,”  said Dr. Arthur Christiano, orthopedic surgeon from Orthopedics New England. “Not only that, it is patient-centric and patient-friendly – in a convenient location with a streamlined, safe experience.  Particularly in today’s environment, these are real benefits to our patients. ”

“Our motto at Shields is to ‘Treat every patient the way you want your mother to be treated,’” said Tom Shields, CEO. “We are fortunate to have partners at New England Surgical Suites who share these values and understand that surgery affects not just the patient, but their entire family. When patients walk through our doors, we want them to know that every bit of our attention is dedicated to ensuring their well-being and a rapid return to their daily lives.”
