“I strive to give the patient all the tools they need to improve their health.”
Growing up in Minnesota, Dr. Kyle Lau got to know his family physician well and he became a mentor to him. “I remember how much impact my doctor was able to make on people in the community, and it made me want to do the same,” he explains. “Taking care of the people around me and helping the community was what I also wanted to do.”
As a primary care physician at Reliant, Dr. Lau enjoys being able to address 90% of the issues that patients come to him for. “I was trained to treat a wide range of problems for my patients,” he explains. “It’s something I really enjoy. Plus, I love getting to know my patients and getting updates on everyone’s life and families. For me, this is the ideal way to practice medicine.”
In addition to helping patients with typical primary care needs, Dr. Lau has a big interest in sports medicine as well as treating musculoskeletal issues (including providing joint injections). He also has experience treating concussions and helping patients suffering from mental health issues. No matter what the issue, he is dedicated to providing comprehensive and holistic care. “I strive to give the patient all the tools they need to improve their health,” he explains. “Whether that includes a prescription or advice on diet, nutrition, or exercise; those are all important things that I want to be able to provide for my patients.”
In his practice at Reliant Dr. Lau works hard to educate his patients about chronic health problems. “I think you can have a big effect on chronic conditions like obesity using lifestyle intervention,” he explains. “I will sit down with my patients and talk to them about what they are eating and how much exercise they are getting each day. Then see if we can make some modifications to make progress, plus add any treatments or medications that can be helpful.”
In his spare time Dr. Lau enjoys being out in nature, trying new foods, and exploring Massachusetts with his wife. He also enjoys working out and weightlifting.
