Dr. Mark Kranis has always liked learning about science and how the human body works. “Studying medicine was always a lot of fun for me,” he explains. “I have really enjoyed exploring the science of cardiology and mastering the skills it takes to help people get better.”
As a cardiologist at Reliant Medical Group, Dr. Kranis enjoys helping people dealing with all manner of cardiovascular problems including arrythmias, coronary artery disease, and valvular heart disease. “The heart is such an important organ and has so many implications throughout the body. One reason I enjoy my work so much is that as a cardiologist, every day I get to be involved in all different areas in cardiology, and not one day is alike.”
Some of the procedures that Dr. Kranis performs in his practice include transesophageal echocardiography, diagnostic cardiac catheterizations, inserting pacemakers and implantable heart monitors, stress testing and echocardiograms. “Fortunately, we have more great tools to diagnose the risk of heart problems than ever before, and also more effective medications to treat our patients.”
According to Dr. Kranis, a healthy diet and lifestyle is the best way to prevent heart problems. “The diet we recommend to our patients is the Mediterranean diet. Obviously, there are a lot of different diets out there but this one has been proven to help keep hearts healthy. We know that family history plays a role in heart disease, but even if your family suffers from heart disease that doesn’t mean you can’t keep your heart healthy.”
Dr. Kranis enjoys educating his patients and making sure they understand their cardiac conditions. “There are so many options out there and so many new technologies and medicine it can be very daunting to the patient.” Dr. Kranis helps guide his patients so they can choose the best option that suits them. “Some of the technologies we have today gives the patient tools to diagnose and monitor some cardiac conditions. For instance, the Apple Watch can check for high heart rates and irregular rhythms and even capture an ECG that patients can send to their doctor. These new technologies give patients a great way to monitor problems with their heart without having to come into the office.”
When he is not busy with patients, Dr. Kranis likes spending time with his wife and three children. They enjoy planning trips together and traveling everywhere from local to international destinations.
