“I really enjoy providing care throughout the course of a women’s lifetime…”

Dr. Rachel Draper says it was a high school anatomy class that began her interest in becoming a physician. “I was just really fascinated by the science behind medicine,” she explains. “I think I knew by the time that I was sixteen that I wanted to be a doctor. A career that combined science with helping others seemed like a good fit for me.”

Dr. Draper first thought she would work in emergency medicine but later decided that becoming an OB-Gyn physician made the most sense for her. “I liked the fast pace of emergency medicine but I also enjoyed taking care of women. For this reason, I thought that practicing in OB-Gyn was ideal for me.” At Reliant, Dr. Draper provides a full range of OB-Gyn services including obstetric care as well as gynecological and surgical care (including minimally invasive surgery).

When treating patients, Dr. Draper strives to treat the whole person, not just the disease. “With my osteopathic training, we were taught to treat each patient holistically, including mind, body and spirit. I believe that is vitally important for proper care and healing.”

Dr. Draper says that one of the best things about being an OB-Gyn physician is that she gets to see people during one of the best moments of their life when she delivers their baby. “It can obviously be a stressful time for parents but also an incredibly rewarding time as well,” she explains. “I really enjoy providing care throughout the course of a woman’s lifetime, whether a teenager on their first visit, during childbirth or women going through menopause. It’s very fulfilling to me and I love developing long-lasting relationships with my patients.”

In her spare time Rachel is an avid hiker and weight-lifter. She also likes to cook and bake and travel to national parks in the US with her fiancée.
