Has Social Media Taken Over Your Life?
By Amy Chau, FNP Department of Family Practice Social media has become a big part of almost everyone’s life these days. However, for...
A graduate of Regis College, Andrea originally wanted to work as an RN in an acute care setting when she started her career in medicine. “However, during my clinical rotation, I was fortunate to work under my very own nurse practitioner who I had known since early childhood. I really loved watching her provide an amazing level of care – on so many different levels – and I knew I wanted that for my own career.”
Andrea decided to work in Family Practice because she enjoys working with both children and adults. “I really enjoy pediatrics but I also find great joy when working with my older patients, so I chose Family Practice because I could work with patients across the lifespan,” she explains. “I love that I’ve had the opportunity to work with multiple generations in families. I treat grandparents, older adults, their children and their children’s children. It really is an amazing experience to embrace the whole family dynamic and see how our professional relationship grows and benefits from that foundation.”
In her practice, Andrea believes it is important to build a strong, working relationship with her patients and their families. “By working together, as a provider-patient team, I am able to learn what is important to each individual. I want I know their needs and goals, and from there we can work together to accomplish them.” She truly loves getting to know her patients and their families. “I enjoy seeing them out in the community and sharing my own life with them,” she explains. “This builds an even stronger relationship that we both benefit from.”
Andrea empathizes strongly with those she cares for. “It is really difficult to see the hardships my patients face, such as loss, grief, and tumultuous times, but I always assure them we will go through it together. As their nurse practitioner, I have a special opportunity to help during challenging times – and that is something I cherish.”
When she is not busy seeing patients, Andrea enjoys spending time with her husband and her two boys, going to sports and community events, traveling, walking with her dog, cooking and trying new recipes (many of them given to her by her patients).
