“Getting to see children grow up and watching parents grow into their role is a wonderful thing.”
Dr. Courtney Tolliday originally considered being a veterinarian but later decided that going to medical school and studying to become a pediatrician was the right career choice for her. “I’ve always loved being with and interacting with children, so I knew that going into pediatrics was the right decision for me.”
Dr. Tolliday likes to take a family-centered approach when treating her patients. “Even when you are taking care of one person in the family, the whole family’s perspective is important,” she explains. “So I try to see the bigger picture no matter what I am dealing with – that’s the way I like to practice the art of medicine.”
In her practice Dr. Tolliday has an interest in breast feeding, early childhood nutrition, and helping children start solid foods. “When a child goes from drinking formula or breast milk and starting to take in solid food for the first time, parents often need some guidance. There’s a lot of resources I can recommend to families on starting solids as well as other childhood issues and these can be very helpful.”
Dr. Tolliday says that the thing she enjoys the most about being a pediatrician is building relationships with families over time. “Getting to see children grow up and watching parents grow into their role is a wonderful thing.”
When she is not busy working with her patients, Dr. Tolliday enjoys spending time with family and friends.
