“No matter how bad a day you are having, working with kids can always put a smile on your face.”
Dr. Julia Staschen wanted to pursue a career in medicine due to her passion for science and desire to help others. “I love being a doctor because it allows me to create meaningful connections, provide support when people need it, and guide patients and their families through both good and difficult times,” she explains. “I also love the challenge of making a correct diagnosis every day.”
Dr. Staschen decided to become a pediatrician because she loves working with children and their families. “Seeing the strength and resilience children have always amazes me,” she explains. “No matter how bad a day you are having, working with kids can always put a smile on your face.”
In her practice at Reliant, Dr. Staschen often sees children suffering from obesity. “I believe in talking to families about nutrition and physical activity as soon as obesity becomes a problem,” she explains. “Starting early and working closely with families to see what works for them is really the key to successful treatment,” she explains. “We know that a healthy diet and lifestyle is one of the most important ways to prevent health problems later in life.”
When working with her patients Dr. Staschen always takes a collaborative approach to care. “I think it’s important to work as a team, with both the patient and their family, and value their perspective and insights when starting the decision-making process,” she explains. “This way, you can individualize their treatment options and align them with their values and goals.”
When she is not busy helping her patients, Dr. Staschen enjoys cooking, baking, exploring local restaurants and being with her family and pets.
