Medical Mythbuster: Can the Flu Vaccine Give You the Flu?

This is false, despite the rumors that circulate every year around the flu season. Vaccines cannot cause flu illness because they contain an inactive virus or virus particles. Some people may develop a low-grade fever that goes away within 1–2 days. They may mistakenly think they caught the flu when they are actually experiencing side effects.

There are many myths surrounding the flu vaccine. Read more here and please remember to book an appointment for your flu shot directly in MyChart or by contacting your primary care provider’s office!

What a coincidence that this post just came out. I got my flu shot this morning from Dr. Sidhu.
That’s one less thing I have to be concerned about this winter.

Hi Marcia. We do have egg-free vaccines. In fact, our main flu vaccine this year is Flucelvax which is produced on a cell line instead of in eggs.
