National Influenza Vaccination Week (NIVW)

Dec 6, 2022 / Health Advice

December 5th to December 9th is National Influenza Vaccination Week (NIVW). This awareness week is a national observance and was established to highlight the importance of continuing influenza vaccination.

Did You Know?

  • Flu season can begin as early as October, with peak months occurring December through February
  • Flu season can last as late as May
  • Vaccination is especially important for protecting those at high risk for serious flu complications, including: young children, pregnant women, adults 65 years and older, and anyone with chronic health conditions like asthma, diabetes, and heart disease
  • It is never too late in the season to get a flu vaccine to protect yourself and loved ones

Why Do I Need the Flu Vaccine?

  • You may be exposed to someone at work and in the community (gym, grocery store, etc) with the flu before they know they are sick!
  • You also may pass on the flu virus to someone else before you know you are sick.
  • The flu is a serious and contagious disease that can lead to hospitalization and even death
  • Anyone can get sick from the flu….even healthy people!
