Home Remedies to Handle Irritated Eyes

Nov 28, 2013 / Geriatrics / Seniors

Many seniors suffer from irritated eyes on occasion. Be sure to avoid rubbing or touching your eye if this happens, as it will usually make the problem worse. The best way to get relief is to use a warm compress.

  • Take a folded washcloth, dip it into warm (not hot) water and then press it into your closed eyes.
  • Apply the compress for about three minutes. Keep dipping the washcloth into the water to keep it warm.

The warmth and wetness of the compress should help your eyes feel better. If you find your eyes are constantly irritated, it may be the symptom of a more serious problem, such as an allergy or chronic dry eyes. If this is the case, consult an eye doctor for treatment.
